Calvin Greer of Milwaukee is an artist who loves his woodwork. He is a self-taught woodturner, is trained in the art of stained glass and photography, and has been a custom furniture maker. He relishes creating artwork that calls forth his ancestral lineage and other cultures, and feels that his art is understood in the context of three creative streams: Africa, the New World, and the artist's own creative vision. The Greer Oaks Gallery, showing the work of Calvin Greer and more than 20 local artists from the Wisconsin-Illinois local area, is located in a 100 year old restored mansion-a work of art in itself-in the Brewers Hill area of Milwaukee.
